Social distancing pointers led to in response to the pandemic made the normal operation of a simulation centre with limited flooring space not possible. To continue offering coaching to a better number of candidates, strategies for recreating the simulation expertise with distant candidates have been devised and explored:
A: Conversational avatar over Zoom.
Using streaming software, our pre-current conversational avatar is presented on a Zoom call for conversational simulation with distant candidates.
B: Gameplay type eventualities on CenarioVR.
Candidates navigate a clinical room atmosphere with buttons and menus to undertake a state of affairs. The system tracks inputs to progress the scenario.
C: Distant In-Ear (RIE) coaching.
Using a wireless earbud, candidates communicate remotely with centre staff (‘operatives’) who follow the directions given by candidates watching a reside Zoom feed. Three variations were explored:
C1: Candidates remotely watch the feed while connected to an operative by an audio name.
C2: Candidates message their target operative on Zoom and text-to-speech software reads these messages to the operatives.
C3: Zoom breakout rooms/separate WhatsApp video calls join candidates to target operatives, the place candidates see from the operative’s perspective via a head-mounted digital camera.
D: Digital environments
D1: Personal Worlds inside VRChat host eventualities.
D2: GOSH’s Minecraft server hosts scenarios.
